Poster Update

This morning before college I rode down the metro station on my bike in order to take a load of pictures of the doors, looking for the perfect picture for my film poster. This is one of the pictures I took, and I think it is one of the best. However there are a couple of others that I also like. I think i'm going to make all of them into a poster and put exactly the same text on all of them. That way I can look at them side by side and choose which is best. I'm also going to go onto the font site 'DaFont' and find some font that perhaps matches my theme more than the one i'm currently using. Hopefully I can find exactly what i'm looking for. I've used this post to help track my progress throughout the course.

Inspirational Texts - Doctor Who radio advert.

This add was made to advertise a special episode of Doctor Who called 'The Day of the Doctor'. In the advert they mention the day that the Doctor is both shown on T.V and the day he has travelled to in the episode. This helps to blur the lines between reality and the show and is something i'd like to use in my advert. The advert also uses a mix of sound effects from the show and a mix of new text and audio made especially for the advertisement, such as the voice at the end which invites you to come and help to save the world. This engages the listener and makes a personal link to the show, encouraging them to check it out. I'd like to try and mirror this in my advert, in order to make a connection with my target audiance.

My Progress

Today i've been busy trying to write a script for my radio advert. I've been listening to loads of adverts both on radio stations and on youtube to try and get a feel for what radio adverts actually consist of normally a voice, some music and some kind of sound effect. To go with this script, i'm going to ride the metro to Newcastle at rush hour and attempt to record some of the crowd noise to put in the advert. I think I'll need to record quite a bit of noise in order to get a good bit of sound. This sound will run in the background of the advert to make it feel like the speaker is having a conversation with the listener on the metro which will connect the reader to the film by giving them a source of relate-ability. I will then fade in some music towards the end to make sure the advert leaves on a good and happy note and leaves the listener with a good experience.

Having thought about it more I believe that this film would more likely be shown in a smaller independent cinema such as Tyneside cinema because of it's length and local theme.

Time management

Today i've been looking for some music to match the tone of my film. The website i've been looking at is called Incomptech.com, which is a website that provides free music for those who are making films and don't have the money to pay for a big artist to do money for them. I will choose the final music soon.

Update of footage.

After filming the starting and ending parts of my film, i've spent the lesson learning how to use Adobe Premier Pro, the editing software I will be using to edit the individual shots into a film. In the opening sequence, a girl walks up to the metro buys a ticket and walks onto the train. She then sits down and falls asleep almost instantly. This is when the 'dream' section comes in, and we can see the real action of the film, which will be filmed at a later date when I can gather some friends together to film. The purpose of this post has been to document my progression through the project showing my downfalls and accomplishments along the way.

Group Filming and editing task

This is film me and a few of my classmates made so we could have a go at filming and editing before we actually made our own films. I had quite a bit of fun filming it and we all had a go at editing on Adobe Premier Pro. This was the first time i've used Premier Pro, and although there are a few shaky moments and the acting is suspect in parts I think it isn't too bad. The purpose of this was to get some editing experience and I think I did that.

Reconstruction of Radio advert

I've decided to do a reconstruction of a radio advert that is actually from a few years ago, however it's for a good cause and in Stephen Fry I feel like i'm in safe hands as someone to look up to when recreating his work. The advert is for Marie Curie Cancer care, a toutchy subject I know but hopefully one that if anything raises some awareness. In doing this exercise I've learnt that making radio adverts is much tougher than I first thought, because it's very hard to get everything to all come together in one take. You could always edit sounds together however this can make it feel disjointed and it's better to use one take.
